, one the founding principals of
Your Texas Music
, has enjoyed a successful 30+ year career in book sales and distribution. John served as the director of Gulf Publishing Company’s book division prior to going out on his own when he formed Wilson & Associates in 2000.
In addition, during the early ’70s John reviewed music for the
covering such up and coming bands as ZZ Top, Bruce Springsteen, and Rat Creek. The latter never really made it as a band, but it wasn't for lack of effort. They had a great sound and John really liked them, and it gave him a great appreciation for the travails of new bands. Plus, they ended up generally having successful post-Rat Creek careers so it all worked out in the end.
John also pursued a music career, but it successfully eluded him. It did help him meet his wife,
, while performing at Dirty Jim’s Dry Goods in Old Market Square, but that’s another story.

met John and Pharaby in 1975 when they lived about nine doors down from one another in a suburb of Houston. During his days at UT Larry ran a pirate radio station from his dorm room. Larry has an extensive CD collection and has managed to collect every number one pop hit since about 1940. It’s a mind-boggling accomplishment. Larry runs a successful business in Austin, as does Terri.
The seed for
came after the four of us attended a songwriter’s music festival on the banks of the Llano River outside Art, Texas, in December 2004. After a night of great music and various spiritual lubricants we realized how far we were from anywhere.
That physical distance (and talking with some of the musicians) brought home the idea that the biggest problems facing struggling, undiscovered artists, as well as more established artists, is how to get their CDs out to the public. The process seems to be overly complicated requiring constant promotion and money.
Your Texas Music
to to simplify the CD distribution process and to offer a proven vehicle for local, national, and international distribution of musicians' products. We also want it to be musician friendly. So, our emphasis is simple—we distribute only Texas music for non-major label artists. If that includes you, then we need to talk. For information about getting your CDs listed on
